Wellington Kiwanis Club’s fifth annual Parade of Flags kicked off this Memorial Day weekend with more than 235 U.S. flags waving in the wind. That is a record. Thanks to VFW Post 6941, drivers are greeted as they enter the downtown district with a 20-flag display on the hill of the North Main St. underpass. American Legion Post 8 is once again sponsoring the flags at the Vietnam Memorial on the Town Hall south lawn. John and Amy Kiley of Kiley’s Tree Service sponsored the Town Hall display while Steve Neff of Wellington Music is the sponsor again at Union School Park. Residents can still subscribe to have a flag in their yard for Flag Day, Independence Day, Patriot Day, and Veteran’s Day. Cost is $6 per holiday. All proceeds go to our Playground Fund. Memorial Day ceremonies begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Town Hall. ... See MoreSee Less
Wellington Kiwanis Club was the chief sponsor of McCormick Middle School's inaugural Dynamic Duke Handshake competition for sixth graders at the Wellington Eagles. Kiwanians Ayers Ratliff, Jenny Arntz, Troy Pitts and Terry Mazzone participated, although we also represented other organizations. Principal Robert Figuly and Nathan Morris did a fine job in organizing this event that will hopefully become an annual competition. We are sharing a video prepared by Wellington Schools.
