About 120 people from Wellington and throughout the county attended the Kiwanis Club of Wellington’s seventh annual State of Wellington breakfast Thursday, March 28 at the Wellington Eagles. Mayor Hans Schneider and Council President Gene Harman honored three local businesses and the Kiwanis Club for their commitment to their community and presented them with Keys to the Village. President Carol Burke and the Wellington Kiwanis Club honored retiring Wellington Schools' Superintendent Ed Weber with a "Champion of Children" Yeti at the State of Wellington Breakfast Thursday, March 28 . The club uses the award to honor individuals who have made a significant impact on the lives of children. Mr. Weber, also an active Kiwanian, has been instrumental in the success of the annual Morris Furcron Memorial Nut Sale, which generated a record $14,000 in sales in 2023. The $7,000 profit allows the club to offer scholarships and sponsorships such as Wellington Hot Stove and Wellington Soccer Associaton.
