Our fund-raising includes Pancake Day, usually held in February or March on a Friday. Plans are to use proceeds from this breakfast to purchase playground equipment. In 2018 we started a new tradition by sponsoring the State of Wellington breakfast with Mayor Hans Schneider and Wellington Schools’ Superintendent (and Kiwanian) Ed Weber provide an overview of the previous year and outline their goal for the coming year. Each August, we sell admission tickets at the Lorain County Fair. We also have our annual Morris Furcron Peterson Nut Sale in the fall. The past two years, the community has supported by Kiwanis in this effort with sales totaling more than $10,000.
Kiwanis Scholarships went to: Sophia Beck, Allison Gott, and Camryn Morris.
We also assist with administering two additional scholarships:
Mosher (Bonnie and Jim) Scholarships: Addison McConnell and Peyton Teague
Moore (Sharon and.Gary ) Scholarships: Alexa Gallion and Madison Lewis
Kudos to Allison Gott who also received the Community Service Award for volunteering 900 hours during her high school career.
All of the recipients are fine examples of active leaders who are community minded. The students presented their long lists of extra-curricular involvement like Key Club, sports, drama club, National Honor Society, and more. They also shared their college plans.
At the helm, President Terry Mazzone was master of ceremony, with help from Rob Skinner chair of the Parade of Flags program, and President Elect, Pam Rousch, aka The Basket Queen, who shared details on the 3rd grade Dictionary program.
Join our group to get involved and help local kids. The scholarships would not be possible without community support with our Annual Morris Furcron Peterson nut sale, Pancake Day, and the State of Wellington. ... See MoreSee Less
