Our fund-raising includes Pancake Day, usually held in February or March on a Friday. Plans are to use proceeds from this breakfast to purchase playground equipment. In 2018 we started a new tradition by sponsoring the State of Wellington breakfast with Mayor Hans Schneider and Wellington Schools’ Superintendent (and Kiwanian) Ed Weber provide an overview of the previous year and outline their goal for the coming year. Each August, we sell admission tickets at the Lorain County Fair. We also have our annual Morris Furcron Peterson Nut Sale in the fall. The past two years, the community has supported by Kiwanis in this effort with sales totaling more than $10,000.

We also recognize American Legion Post 8 at the Vietnam Memorial, VFW Post 6941 at Duke Pride Hill at Barb O’Keefe Way (North Main St. underpass) and Wellington Masonic Lodge #127 at Pioneer Cemetery on W. Herrick Ave. We have 276 flags flying throughout town as part of Kiwanis’ Parade of Flags. All proceeds are earmarked for playground equipment. At 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, the Kiwanis Club of Wellington will be hosting Roger Dorsey of Good Knights of Lorain County, a non-profit organization that is committed to providing beds for children of Lorain County. A social period with refreshments starts at 5:30 p.m. Kiwanis is working with the Wellington Masonic Lodge and Wellington Eagles to raise at least $30,000 for the not-for-profit program. Adventure raffle tickets will be available at this meeting. Tickets are $20 or six for $100. A special event will be held at the Wellington Eagles 631 S. Main St. from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.
