Before you know it, the kids will be back in school for another year of learning. The Kiwanis Club of Wellington is raising funds and having a supply drive to provide school supplies for our elementary and middle school children. Please help us provide the new supplies that our kids will need to be successful this coming school year. A trip to Wellington’s Discount Drug Mart in 2023 showed us that the required supplies for a fourth grade student cost between $50 and $60 then. Imagine the total cost today for families with multiple students in elementary and middle school!
Kiwanis will also collect and use monetary donations to purchase supplies in bulk and distribute them at the “Back to School Bash” on August 15 at the McCormick Middle School Gymnasium.
The supplies you purchase should be from the 2026-27 supply lists for each grade level. New supplies from these lists can be dropped off until noon August 13 at the following locations:
The Wellington Eagles Auxiliary bedding drive to benefit Good Knights of Lorain County was a huge success. They raised more than $1,800 to help ensure that children have a safe and comfortable bed to sleep in. This total does not include the thousands of dollars in bedding donated, which took a 30-person assembly line to stuff the Good Knights trailer, pick-up truck bed and cab. We posted a separate video of that endeavor. The demand for beds from families in need fluctuates but remains constant according to Roger Dorsey, executive director of Good Knights. The bedding drive was just the first phase of a fund-raising effort in southern Lorain County. An adventure raffle is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Eagles. Tickets are $20 each and six for $100. On Oct. 24, a bed build is set on the Town Hall lawn in downtown Wellington. Last year, this effort of behalf of the Eagles, Wellington Masonic Lodge and Kiwanis Club of Wellington, raised more than $50,000 and 105 beds were built on that Saturday morning.
